15 Years of Mike’s Global Grill

On May 1, 2011, Mike and Heidi opened the doors to what would become Mike’s Global Grill.

Back then, Boquete was a very different place. There was no brewery, no Tap Out, no Big Daddy’s—and only a handful of restaurants in town. Today, there are well over a hundred. The town has grown, and in many ways, so have we.

In those early days, things were simpler and a little rougher around the edges. There was no highway as we know it today. The drive to David could take hours depending on traffic. Grocery options were limited, and infrastructure was minimal.

It wasn’t better or worse—just different.

What started as a small deli space became something much more: a place where people gather. Over the years, Mike’s Global Grill has grown into a restaurant, a bar, a music venue, and a meeting place for locals, expats, travelers, and friends.

Through it all, we’ve tried to stay true to what matters most: great food, great music, and a welcoming place to come together.

We’ve shared countless meals, hosted hundreds of musicians, and built relationships that go far beyond the walls of the restaurant. Many of you have been with us from the beginning. Others found us along the way. All of you are part of this story.

As we mark 15 years, we’re not just celebrating a date—we’re celebrating a community.

We kick things off on May 1 with Blues Invaders, launching a year of events leading up to a larger anniversary celebration later this year when Chef Mike returns.
